Yahoo Unveils New Logo

Back in August Yahoo announced a 30 days of change campaign. Each day, Yahoo would be changing it's logo in anticipation for the final rebrand. After much publicity and build-up the new logo has been introduced and was designed by Mayer herself and Yahoo's in-house design team.

The original tease video of 30 days of change.

The new logo will be a modern redesign that’s more reflective of our reimagined design and new experiences. To get everyone warmed up, we are kicking off 30 days of change. Beginning now, we will display a variation of the logo on our homepage and throughout our network in the U.S. for the next month. It’s our way of having some fun while honoring the legacy of our present logo. We also want to preserve the character that is unique to Yahoo! — fun, vibrant, and welcoming — so we’ll be keeping the color purple, our iconic exclamation point and of course the famous yodel. After all, some things never go out of style.

Well, there it is. The new Yahoo logo. I thought it was interesting that CEO Marissa Mayer felt the need to design the logo, because it reminds me of the Google logo as it was designed by it's founders. Many people were upset with this new logo, they thought it was too boring for all the build-up. I think it's not bad considering the CEO was involved in the design process.  It is simple and minimal, with a tad bit of quarkyness.

The biggest benefit to the new logo is that Marissa Mayer is taking ownership of Yahoo, she is taking the lead. So from a branding standpoint, Marissa is re-energizing Yahoo employees and showing them she is steering the boat.

Logo or Brand? Which is what?

raleigh graphic design

There’s a lot of misconception when it comes to the differences between a logo design raleigh, an identity, and a brand. People in marketing and design may have a decent grasp on the definitions and applications, but how about you? If your are a bit unclear, or you have absolutely no idea, or you just want to see I’m for real or full of crap, then read on. I’m keeping this post very simple, with three categories along with descriptive bullet points to define each. Before moving on, it must be said: there is some overlap for all three of these categories. For example, it’s not exactly wrong to call a logo a brand because of the origin of the word ‘brand’ (the hot iron rod with the company’s icon or word mark, used on shipping boxes and livestock). Okay, now onto the meat.

Logo

A logo is the representation of the organization in its simplest form the emblem or mascot of the organization the foremost element that triggers the feelings of consumers critical for an organization to be recognizable a trademark

Identity

An identity is the different physical elements of the company that work together and customers come in contact with the complete package of company materials: your logo, business cards, email signatures, websites, ads, your employee uniforms, store layout design, package design, corporate jingle, etc.

Brand

A brand is a concept, more than just graphic design, not a concrete object the foundation of your entire marketing framework the emotional and psychological relationship between a company and consumers what people think and feel when they experience your company (their gut feeling)

Next time you’re sitting down with your marketing team or your business coach you can show that you know what you’re talking about. Not only can you show off your knowledge on the subject, but you can implement this it into the planning stage of your next business venture or product. (Hint: envisioning the brand you want to create comes way before designing your logo and corporate identity.)

How much should a logo cost

As we get more and more requests for logo design, obviously the question of "how much does it cost" is going to be asked. There are many aspects that determine the cost of a raleigh logo design, so we thought it would be fun to gather a list of well known brands and the cost of their logos. logo_google
